On 8th day of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight of moon) of the month of ‘Magha’ in the Hindu calendar is known as Bhishma Ashtami.
Rituals during Bhishma Ashtami:
This day libation is done with taking kusha, sesame and water on behalf of Bhishmapitamaha. Whether our parents may not be alive; from doing this vow is beautiful and talented child receives. According to Mahabharata one who perform ‘Tarpan’ Water charities on 8th day of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight of moon) of the month of ‘Magha’, throughout his years of sin is destroyed.
Mantra on Bhishma Ashtami:
“Vasunaamavtaraya Shantanoraatmajanaya ch ! argyam dadami Bhishmaya AaBalabrahmacharine”!!
On behalf of Bhismaji, on the day of Bhishmastami one who spells chant this and offer sesame, odor, flowers, ganga water and mixed with kusha become prove his desideratum.
